Are you like me and snooze your alarm 5 times before rolling out of bed? Do you slump in the afternoon and generally find it difficult to summon energy throughout the day? Well, maybe I can help!
Here are 4 tips to help boost your energy throughout the day!
Get Up & Move
It sounds simple but if you think about it, how often do you actually get up, move around and change your scenery throughout the day? I always think I’m great at this until I spend a day actually doing it and realise how much more energised I am!
Get up, move around. If you work from home like me, walk around the block, pop to the shops, grab a coffee or even just go downstairs and take your laptop. Go outside and work for a bit, or take your phone calls in a different room. We’re designed to move up and down in cycles throughout the day, with peaks of energy and troughs of relaxation and stillness, but too much of either can be bad for us.
I like to keep this in mind and think about getting the blood pumping and my brain sparking with interest rather than slowing down because of fatigue and boredom.
Try having an activity nearby, maybe an exercise bike or skipping rope and set a timer 3 times a day to do these for 5 minutes or so. This is a great way to get your body pumping and encourage energy and focus.
Make a Matcha
Oooh I love a matcha latte! Matcha is great for waking you up and giving you a solid flow of energy without peaking and dipping like coffee. I’ve written a whole post on the benefits of matcha, and I recommend giving it a quick read when you have 5 mins as the properties of matcha are amazing.
A matcha latte will give you an energy boost along with other benefits such as improving brain function, detoxifying and even help fight free radicals and cancer.
You can get matcha capsules for your Nespresso machine, powder which can be used for lattes and baking, or matcha tea if you like convenience throughout the working day.
Take a Ginger Shot
I’ve gotten so into ginger shots over the last year or so. I’ve always loved them, but we’ve been getting Moju shot deliveries and I’ll tell you know, a ginger shot is a great way to re-invigorate the body and mind, and fire up any creative juices and spark focus.
Try picking up some Moju shots from Sainsburys or Waitrose, or you can buy directly from their website which is what we tend to do. There are other brands too, and I’ve tried a fair few of them, however I’ve found that Moju are the most fiery and this is something that both me and my partner love!
Meditation
This might sound like the opposite of boosting your energy, but meditation is incredible for clearing your mind, releasing stress and tension from the body and allowing you to refocus and come back to your desk with renewed energy and a wave of clarity and calm.
I like to take 5 minutes and lay on my yoga mat in savasana, or sit on the floor cross legged and take a few moments to focus on my breath and clearing my thoughts. Taking a moment away from what you were doing and encouraging you to change your scenery, even if the scenery change is simply relaxing or closing your eyes, is hugely beneficial.
Meditation may not be something you’ve wanted to incorporate into your day, but I guarantee that once you start, you’ll be addicted to the practice and the results!
