We all know that mindless scrolling can take up so much of our day. Sometimes it feels impossible to put your phone down, but stepping away from the screen can actually be really refreshing. Over the past few months, I’ve been making a conscious effort to do more off-screen activities, and it’s made a big difference.
Here are some of the things I like to do instead of scrolling:
Reading
Whether it’s a book, a magazine, or an interesting article, reading is such a relaxing way to shift focus and really unwind.
Walking outside or spending time in nature
Fresh air and movement are the best for clearing your head and feeling grounded.
Clearing out a drawer or cupboard
It’s surprisingly satisfying to declutter and organise, and it gives you a little sense of accomplishment.
Journalling
Writing down your thoughts, ideas, or things you’re grateful for is a simple way to pause and reflect.
Cooking or baking
Focusing on creating something delicious keeps your hands busy and your mind off your phone.
Doing a quick home workout or some stretching
It’s energising and also gives you a break from being sedentary.
Listening to a podcast or music without scrolling on your phone
You can really immerse yourself and enjoy the moment.
Final Thoughts
Taking a little time off your phone doesn’t have to be complicated. Even small changes, like reading for ten minutes or going for a walk, can help you feel more present and refreshed. I’ve found that having a few go-to off-screen activities makes it so much easier to resist the urge to scroll and actually enjoy my time away from my phone.
