Here’s everything I read in 2025 and what I thought.
Paper Aeroplanes and Goose
I loved these books and read them back to back. The characters and storylines completely sucked me in, and I found myself so invested. I think the reason I loved these books so much was that they remind me of the kind of books I would have been obsessed with at school. It took me back to feeling like a teenager and as the most nostalgic person in the world – I loved that!
A Court of Thorns and Roses (The ACOTAR Series)
I finally gave in and started the ACOTAR series this year after seeing it all over social media. At first, I didn’t get the hype. I actually got a bit bored halfway through the first book and put it down for a few weeks, but once I picked it back up again and got to the end, I suddenly understood what everyone was talking about and was pretty hooked.
When I started the second book, I felt the same at first but ended up loving the storyline with Rhysand so much more than the first book. There were parts I couldn’t stop reading and others that felt a bit repetitive or unnecessary – I knew the books were long, but there was so much of nothing that I think could have been cut in half.
One thing that threw me was how quickly the story flipped from Feyre being so in love with Tamlin and fighting for him, to suddenly hating him, it just felt like such a dramatic turn without much explanation and we just all accepted that this was the case and I kind of wanted to hear things from Tamlins side.
As the series went on, it was very up and down for me. Some parts had me absolutely hooked, while others I had to push myself to get back into. The books are long, which sometimes made it feel like a big commitment, but every time I finished one, I felt sad it was over.
I do recommend them though, especially because they’ve become such a pop culture moment and it’s always fun to be a part of something everyone else seems to be obsessing over too. I’m convinced there’ll be films or a series at some point, and I’d rather have read the books before that happens (I go over in my head all the actors I would cast when I’m reading haha).
The Tarot Reader of Versailles
I actually read this one between the ACOTAR books because I needed a bit of a break. I saw it on a shelf in Sainsburys doing my weekly shop and instantly thought, this book sounds like it was written for me.
I’m obsessed with Versailles, and since we got married this year, one of the themes I wanted for the wedding was that romantic, Versailles aesthetic. Obviously I’m also very into Tarot, and I love anything historical so I truly do think this book was written for me 😀
It mixed real history with fictional storytelling in a way I really loved. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was definitely mine.
Book Boyfriend
I bought this one as a light honeymoon read because I didn’t want to take the huge ACOTAR books around in my suitcase and I wanted something easy and fun, and this was exactly that.
It was sweet, predictable, and reminded me a lot of Dash and Lily, which I rewatch every Christmas. It was the perfect holiday book and also a great book to help me fall back in love with reading after my love/hate up and down relationship with ACOTAR!
What’s Your Dream
For non-fiction, Toby actually bought me this book after reading about it and thinking I’d like it. I dipped in and out of it alongside other books and really enjoyed it. any book that makes me think about self development and reflection is a book I love.
