Why I Love BIAB

BIAB Nails

I’ve always loved doing my nails – there’s just something about having them freshly done that makes me feel put together and confident. For years I did them myself, but no matter what I tried, nothing ever really lasted. Traditional polish chipped within days, and shellac peeled straight off. So, back in 2021, I decided to treat myself and try BIAB. Four years later, I’m completely obsessed and honestly can’t imagine going back to anything else.

The Switch to BIAB

BIAB, or Builder in a Bottle, has completely changed my nails. I’ve always had healthy and strong nails, but since BIAB they’re stronger, longer, and healthier than they’ve ever been because they’re always protected.

One thing I would say is finding the right salon to do BIAB is really important. I’ve had friends who have not had the good experience I’ve had, and at one point I did try two different salons to normal, and my nail health was temporarily affected by this.

In the salon love, when they remove my colour, they gently shave off the top layer of BIAB but always leave a tiny base layer so they’re not filing my natural nails every time. Not taking the full BIAB off every time means that my natural nails are unaffected. When I tried somewhere new, they soaked my nails in acetone for a really long time, and then lifted and pulled off the BIAB, which gives me shivers just thinking about it, and my nails were quite sore after which is not ideal to say the least. It’s such a small thing, but it’s made a huge difference. If you’ve found that BIAB hasn’t worked for you, or that your natural nails weren’t looked after well, maybe try somewhere new, or ask them to file the colour off and leave a light layer of BIAB so your nails are safe and untouched.

Stronger, Healthier Nails

Since switching to BIAB, my nails just don’t break anymore.  They last for at least four weeks, and if I’m being honest, I often stretch them to six before going back for a fresh set. By that point, the regrowth definitely shows, but it’s worth it for how long they stay looking good.

Colours, Confidence and Care

One of the best parts about BIAB is being able to have colours and designs I could never do myself. From soft nudes to fun patterns, it’s so nice knowing my nails always look polished and professional. It’s given me a real boost in confidence, and I always feel more put together, even on days when I’m not trying and it has truly made a big impact on my everyday.

Beyond the nails themselves, I also really enjoy the ritual of it. Taking an hour and a half once a month to sit with a matcha, listen to a podcast, and just switch off has become something I genuinely look forward to. It’s my little bit of self-care and feels like time just for me.
