The Perfect City Getaway – The Parkgate Hotel, Cardiff

The Parkgate Hotel Cardiff

The Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff id up there with my top ten hotels, and it’s a place we stay at least once a year, and I think wanting to go back this many times says a lot about how stunning this hotel is.

We first stayed there about four years ago when we came to Cardiff for a gig, and we completely fell in love with it. By coincidence, the gig happened to fall around our anniversary, and then weirdly, the same thing happened the next two years in a row. So now it’s officially become our little tradition to come back every November for a night or two at The Parkgate.

Our Favourite Cardiff Stay

The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous. It’s part of The Celtic Collection and has that perfect mix of old charm and modern luxury. The rooms are beautiful and so spacious, even more so if you go for a suite.

Every time we stay, I’m blown away by how lovely all of the rooms are, especially as it feels like a luxury hotel, but without the crazy price tag, which makes it even better. The decor is elegant, cosy and timeless, and everything just feels really well thought out, from the beds to the bathrooms.

It’s right in the centre of Cardiff too, so it’s ideal for a weekend away when you want everything within walking distance. You can head out shopping, grab some food, or just wander around the city and be back in your room within five minutes.

Why We Love Cardiff

Cardiff itself has such a good energy, and is ideal for shopping and wandering around the city. Vivienne Westwood is always a stop for us, and there’s always somewhere new to eat or explore. It’s one of those cities that just feels friendly and welcoming, no matter how many times you visit, and when I say friendly and welcoming, I really mean it. Every time we go back a lot of sales assistants remember us and are so genuinely happy to see us again, and the Welsh just have such a warm and kind vibe that makes me feel so loved and at home in the middle of a busy city, which doesn’t happen in many places.

The Parkgate Hotel will always be one of our favourite places to stay. It’s beautiful, central, and has such a calm, luxurious feel without being over the top. If you’re planning a trip to Cardiff, or just want a little city break that feels special, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s definitely become our home away from home, and I already can’t wait to go back next year.
