For my birthday this year, we stayed at Bailbrook House just outside of Bath, and it was absolutely amazing. I’d seen photos before we went and thought it looked stunning, but in person it’s even more beautiful. It’s one of those hotels that feels really special.

About Bailbrook House
Bailbrook House is a stunning Georgian hotel set in the countryside, just a short drive from Bath. It’s part of the Hand Picked Hotels collection, and you can really tell how much care has gone into keeping its charm and history alive. The main house is full of character, with high ceilings, grand staircases and all those lovely period details that make old buildings feel so unique – the kind of architecture and interior style I love.

The Lady Isabella King Room
We stayed in the Lady Isabella King room and it was so lovely. It’s completely my style with high ceilings and gorgeous original features which I love. The room felt so cosy and luxurious, which is exactly what we wanted for a weekend doing absolutely nothing.
The bathroom was probably my favourite part (which, to be honest it usually is haha). It had a big roll top bath and a huge walk-in shower. I have such a thing for big bathrooms and this one was dreamy. It’s the kind of bathroom that makes you want to run a bubble bath, put on a robe and just stay in there for hours (which I did).

The Perfect Staycation
I recommend Bailbrook House if you’re planning a trip to Bath and want somewhere a little more peaceful than staying right in the city, as it’s close enough that you can pop in easily, but far enough out that you get that countryside aesthetic too.
It’s also perfect if you’re more local, like me, and want to escape for the night. Sometimes you don’t need to go far to feel like you’ve had a proper break, and this was exactly that for us.

Final Thoughts
Bailbrook House completely lived up to my expectations and more. The room, the food, the setting – everything was beautiful. If you’re looking for a period place stay near Bath, I couldn’t recommend it enough.
