Does anyone else find buying gifts for guys so incredibly hard? I guess it depends on who it is you’re buying for, but all the men in my life seem to have everything they want and if there’s something they don’t have, they’ve already primed it on Amazon before I’ve even had the chance to note it down.
I’m not going to give away what I’ve bought this year as I don’t want anyones Christmas gift ruined, but what I will do is share a few tips that I like to use to ensure Christmas morning is a hit for everyone!
Luckily, I started shopping a lot earlier this year (with lockdown we’ve definitely had a lot more time to browse the stores online than ever), and this has made a huge difference. There’s been no panic buying, or purchasing things because time is running out and I’ve spent a lot of time and thought on each person. Having more time means you can do your research, ask questions and also keep an eye out for discounts and sales – woop!
As with all my present buying this year, I’ve tried to note down anything that I’ve thought of throughout the year and have also asked specifically if there’s anything thats wanted or needed to make sure that I’m getting something they’ll love. The number of times my boyfriend has shown me something online he wants, or suggested a product that would really help him with work or a hobby is actually pretty often, you just need to keep your ears open for the clues!
Think About Hobbies
Hobbies are one of the best ways to gift give and honestly one of the tools I use the most. My dad loves photography, cameras, drones and well, anything and everything tech really. He also has a camper and likes to travel a lot so even just with these two hobbies, there’s an endless list of things I could buy! My boyfriend is an animator and musician so there’s a long list of ideas both physical and digital (albeit very pricy – I think my family need new, cheaper hobbies)!! There’s nothing better than receiving something you can use to help with your favourite hobbies.
My boyfriend has bought me things to do with my favourite hobby and job many times! Last year I got a ring light which is perfect for photos and this year has also proved helpful in the many Zoom calls we’ve found ourselves having! He’s even paid for silly things like a year of my domain and hosting for one of my sites and things like this are just great as they’re big expenses that I don’t have to think about and I will use all year round!
I’m the type of person who hates working from a list and who also hates putting a Christmas list together, but I’ve given in and given and received Christmas lists from a number of people. This year hasn’t been great financially and I completely understand why people want some guidance from me and more than even don’t want to waste their money and to be honest, I feel the same. When someone gives you a Christmas list, or if you ask for some suggestions it doesn’t mean they know exactly what they’re getting and it also doesn’t mean you haven’t put any thought in. More often than not, having a list to work from and some suggestions actually helps me to think of a few other things and I end up down a rabbit hole of ideas and gifts that they might not have thought to ask for and that I would have never found without a nod in the right direction.
