Five Ways To Detoxify Your Body

Five Ways To Detoxify Your Body

Everyone needs a cleanse from time to time, and more often than not, when we check in with our bodies we realise just how much we’ve over indulged!

Too much drink, sugar and food in general, along with late nights, early mornings and travel means we’re left feeling tired, lethargic, bloated and low. A detox is most definitely on the cards, but where do we start, and what steps can we realistically incorporate into our lives to ensure that we’re detoxifying and working towards the best versions of ourselves?

Here’s 5 ways that you can detoxify your body

Burdock Tea

Burdock is a root which has amazing detoxifying properties. The main benefit of burdock root is that it can detoxify heavy metals from the blood and can help improve overall health. The easiest way to take burdock is via tea. It’s super simple and easy to prepare so it can be easily incorporated into your daily routine.

Charcoal Water Filter

The water that we drink in general is thought to be safe for us, but it can also be exposed to many things that means it could cause us to consume some nasties too.

The most common problem with water is that it can contain a number of metals. A few months ago I took an allergy test and one of the tests was the levels of metal in my body. I was shocked to find out that some of the metals they tested were at an almost toxic level in my body. I absolutely couldn’t believe it and wanted to try everything I could to detoxify and the first and most important step was filtering my water.

I like to filter my water using charcoal in the form of binchotan sticks. These sticks are great because you can just leave them in your water and then after a few weeks you boil them in a pan of water to cleanse them and then you can re-use them. After a couple of months you can deposit them in the ground or in with your plants to nourish their earth as it’s best not to re-use them over and over a long period of time.

Binchotan charcoal sticks absorb the toxins found in water naturally, as opposed to using more chemicals to treat it. The chemicals charcoal can remove are chlorine, lead, mercury, cadmium and copper and it can actually add minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphates to the water too.

I purchased my binchotan sticks from Amazon and they’re easy to get a hold of, convenient to use and really effective.

Vitamins

If you’re not taking daily supplements then maybe it’s time to think about whether or not a multivitamin, or something more specific like B12 or Vitamin D would help support your immune system and detoxify your body.

Vitamins such as Vitamin C, B Vitamins, Vitamin E, Calcium and Magnesium can help the body to detox from bad habits such as drinking and a poor diet.

By taking a multivitamin, you can incorporate the key vitamins needed for a healthy body and to help detoxification on an ongoing basis. It’s worth taking a test to find out if there’s any vitamins or minerals that you’re deficient in as this is a really good place to start when adding vitamins into your diet.

Juicing

Juicing is great for so many reasons. The reason why juicing is used to help detoxify is because it lets the digestive system take a break from digesting solid food and the liquid is quickly and easily absorbed by the body, meaning you can make the most of all the vitamins and minerals you’re flooding yourself with.

This influx of goodness can fast track your body to detoxify and repair and juicing can leave you feeling renewed, refreshed and nourished within a matter of days.

You can juice alongside your normal diet to add some extra nutrients, or you can juice for a day, three days, a week, or even a month. If you’re going to be juicing for more than a few days then check with your doctor and ensure you do your research and follow a juice plan. The Jason Vale juice diet is great because it ensures you’re getting enough nutrients and calories by using avocado and banana to bulk out two of the juices in your daily juice fast.

Do your research and ensure you’re juicing properly and get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.

Oil Pulling

I will rave time and time again about oil pulling. I’ve been doing it daily for ten years now and it’s so ingrained into me that I know I won’t ever stop. The benefits of oil pulling are literally endless and I’ll link to my full blogpost on oil pulling here even though it’s a few years old now.

Oil pulling helps to pull the toxins out of your body via the tongue and helps the rest of the body to focus on detoxifying other areas, alongside many other incredible benefits. The best way to oil pull is first thing in the morning. All you need to do is take a teaspoon of coconut oil (other oils can be used but high quality is best.

Try using cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil if you can), and swirl around your mouth like mouthwash for 5-20 minutes. You then spit out the oil (absolutely do not swallow it!!!), and brush your teeth. That’s it! Along with detoxifying your body, you’ll probably notice improvements in your oral health and whiter teeth too! Bonus!
